Several companies now offer dedicated electric scooter insurance. Providers like Velosurance and Markel offer policies covering theft, damage, liability, and medical payments. Premiums typically range from $100 to $300 per year depending on the scooter's value and your riding profile.
What to Look For
Liability coverage protects you if you injure someone or damage property. This is the most important coverage for riders.
Theft coverage is valuable if your scooter costs more than $500 and you park it outside regularly. Electric scooter theft is a growing problem in urban areas.
Medical payments coverage pays for your own injuries regardless of fault. This supplements your health insurance and can cover deductibles and copays.
Our Recommendation
At minimum, verify that your existing homeowner's or renter's policy provides some scooter coverage. For scooters worth $1,000 or more, dedicated insurance is a smart investment. The cost is small compared to the potential financial exposure of riding uninsured.
